Central Hospital is Featured in Charlton Media Health Care Asia

Cambodia’s Central Hospital, a leading name in cardiology and critical care, has been spotlighted in Healthcare Asia for its cutting-edge technologies and commitment to comprehensive heart care.

Under the leadership of Hospital Director Dr. Sim Sovannara, Central Hospital has embraced advanced medical technologies designed to provide the full spectrum of cardiac services—from diagnostics to rehabilitation—while reducing the need for invasive surgeries.

“We offer dilatation for stent placements and the closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects, eliminating the need for open-heart surgery,” Dr. Sovannara shared.

For patients whose hearts and lungs require prolonged support, the hospital utilizes an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine, which pumps blood through a device that adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, allowing vital organs to rest and recover. This life-saving technology can sustain patients for days or even weeks, serving as a bridge to recovery or more permanent solutions such as heart transplants.

Precision Diagnostics and Emergency Care

Central Hospital maintains excellence in accurate diagnosis through advanced imaging, including a 128-slice CT scanner, which provides highly detailed cardiac and vascular images.

In addition, the hospital’s critical emergency care system integrates life support and ICU monitoring technologies that link all patient monitors to a central station, enabling real-time observation and rapid intervention. “This setup is crucial for early detection of complications and timely medical response,” Dr. Sovannara explained.

The hospital’s ICU teams are composed of highly trained specialists across cardiology, pulmonology, and other medical fields, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach that significantly improves patient outcomes.

Expansions and Renovations for the Future

Central Hospital is currently undergoing major expansions and renovations. Following the completion of its 20-floor building and the launch of a prosthetics and orthotics clinic, the hospital is updating infrastructure to meet growing healthcare demands.

The redevelopment plan will increase capacity to 150 beds and 10 ICU rooms, each designed as private rooms with state-of-the-art operation theatres featuring negative pressure systems and other advanced technologies.

Accessible, Quality Healthcare for All Cambodians

Dr. Sovannara emphasized the hospital’s vision of providing premier healthcare while keeping services affordable. “We implement cost-effective practices and collaborate with the community, NGOs, and government programs to make innovative treatments accessible to all Cambodians, regardless of financial status,” she said.

With its blend of advanced technology, expert care teams, and patient-centered approach, Central Hospital continues to set a new standard for healthcare in Cambodia, ensuring that every patient receives the highest quality care in a safe and supportive environment.
